A dynamic Mother Tongue Languages curriculum which builds a strong foundation in the languages among our students while providing them with a rich language learning environment to develop a love for learning the languages and appreciating the cultures.

Other than these school-based activities, the department aims to stretch students’ capabilities and cultivate their love for the Chinese language through externally organised activities such as international online writing competitions, calligraphy competitions, drama workshops organized by cluster schools and/or external organizations.

 

2015 Primary School Chinese Language Curriculum & Instructional Materials

  • Greater emphasis on spoken & written interaction skills
  • Greater focus on authentic activities to better engage students and develop their communication skills
  • Continue to expose students to culture & values through CL learning
  • Story characters set in real-life situations that students can relate to, so as to better engage students in their learning of CL
  • Greater use of ICT e.g. videos, animations, digital interactive games etc.

Professional Learning Communities

 

Through PLC, we hope to develop our teachers’ competencies in the teaching and learning of Chinese Language in their respective levels or classes. Through lesson design and collaboration on teaching and learning practices based on the Singapore Teaching Practice (STP), we seek to bring about improvement in a common area of concern such as pedagogy, teaching strategies and assessment, within the Chinese Language curriculum. We want our teachers to share best practices and carry out deep reflection on their craft, so that there is continual improvement made in students’ learning progress and their learning experiences.
