Info-Communication & Technology (ICT)

Guiding Idea

A connected ICT learning environment which focuses on quality learning in the hands of learners and empowers future-ready and responsible digital learners with technology.

1) To enhance competency of our students’ ICT skills

2) To create an ICT-vibrant environment in the school

3) To promote a culture of developing of ICT-enriched lessons which infuse SDL and CoL

4) To encourage pervasive use of ICT in teaching and learning

Curriculum Programmes

The school has many ICT related programmes spread out across the levels as well as running through various subjects. We seek to promote self-directed learning (SDL) and collaborative learning (CoL) through these programmes and leverage on technology to achieve our goals. Through rich collaboration with the other departments in school we have developed the following programmes:

ICT Mentoring Programme

This programme engages teachers in designing lessons that leverage on ICT to raise the quality of pedagogy and lesson resources in the school. The programme serves as one of the important structures of our teaching and learning framework. With the support of the school leaders and through a network of ICT mentors, this programme aims to encourage teachers to harness the use of technology to transform learning for our students.

Science Seamless Learning Programme

In collaboration with Nan Chiau Primary School, selected P3 students are on a Science Seamless Learning Programme (SSLP). This programme enables the students to experience learning beyond the classrooms. The introduction of iPads during lessons also encourages higher engagement of students and allows for the honing of their SDL (self-directed learning) and CoL (collaborative learning) competencies.

iMTL Portal

To leverage on ICT as a pedagogical tool to enhance the delivery and learning of Mother Tongue Languages (CL, ML and TL); MOE has developed an ICT-based application, called the iMTL Portal which was introduced to our Primary 4 students in 2013.  The phased implementation of the iMTL Portal continued in 2014, extending the portal to include Primary 5 students. In 2015, Primary 4 and Primary 5 students will continue to utilize iMTL Portal for a series of interactive learning activities. The iMTL Portal is an essential component of MTL learning as it supports opportunities for the students to listen, read and write more effectively. It also helps to prepare schools and students for ICT-based MTL national examinations.

NS ICT & ICT Champions

The Niche Status (NS) ICT is a student programme that empowers our ICT Champions and gives them an opportunity to leverage on the vibrant learning walls in the school to deliver engaging lessons. Our ICT Champions deliver lessons on topics such as ‘Financial Literacy’, leading the students in their classes to explore such topics through the use of multimedia and discussions.

CyberWellness & Discussion Forums

Through assembly talks and leveraging on online discussion forums, students learn about CyberWellness principles such as netiquette and discuss their views with their peers. The online discussion platform is also used for discussions on topics of different subjects during and outside of lessons.

e-Learning & MC Online

Students subscribe to a Learning Management System Portal, Marshal Cavendish Online, to access multimedia educational content and resources to conduct self-directed learning. These resources are packaged as online lessons by teachers and assigned to students or used by students for independent learning in areas such as writing skills, grammar, Mathematics and Science. Selected days are also set aside for students as e-Learning Days where students’ work, monitored by teachers, can be completed from home.

Enhanced ICT Lessons & Baseline Assessment

These series of lessons are carried out each term with the support of an ICT Trainer and during these lessons, key ICT skills are imparted to prepare students to be able to take on the challenges of tomorrow. The lessons are integrated meaningfully with current curriculum content subjects and students learn to leverage on technology to effectively complete learning tasks. At key stages (Primary 4 & Primary 6) an assessment is conducted to ascertain their competencies in these skills.
